Network levels

Headend

Whether you call it central office, headend, or ISP, this is where the product you sell is ultimately created.

Network levels: Headend

Where the music happens

For some, it’s “just” a monotonous server farm humming away. After all, it’s just ones and zeros whizzing back and forth. For you, of course, it’s so much more:

It is the starting point of your universe.

This is where your own television and radio signal is composed from various sources (e.g., satellite feeds or video servers). With the entire orchestra of signal processing, including modulation, frequency conversion, encoding, amplification, and all the bells and whistles.

But of course, ones and zeros also have their big moment here – in the great symphony called gigabit Internet.

AND network levels – Headend: At best, it runs like a good orchestra

Even if the network headend is located in a single place, it still needs to be planned and documented. After all, it can consist of thousands of components that communicate with each other over several kilometers. And for that, they need reference points.

Of course, the entire infrastructure of a headend should be planned intelligently, including the racks and the CMTS (cable modem termination system). This requires a precise grid definition of the RF channel network and the combination of the various signal sources. This ensures that analog and digital channels as well as the CMTS port information are known at every single output of the network.

It would also be useful if this information could be transmitted dynamically so that any changes made at the head of the network are immediately available at the other end.

Is there already a (software) solution for this? Applause!
