Network types

In-house

All possible types of networks literally coexist in the home network. Hopefully harmoniously.

Network types: In-house

Let’s get the party started!

Only fiber optics are installed up to the distribution box or cable junction box at the roadside (fiber to the curb). From there, existing copper or coaxial cabling is often used for cost reasons only, which usually results in a VDSL connection.

However, if the home connection is also fiber optic (fiber to the building), things get interesting. Thanks to the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, it is then possible to enjoy a true gigabit Internet connection using the existing (reasonably modern) coaxial cabling in the home.

The top tier of an internal network is, of course, fiber optics to the home. Home office, streaming, and gaming for connoisseurs. Future-proven.

Network planners can therefore expect three options at network level 4.

AND network types – In-house: Can be quite a grab bag

Of course, a decisive factor is always whether the network is being newly constructed, completely renovated or modernized in existing buildings. The first option can sometimes be a walk in the park, as there are virtually no surprises to worry about.

The last point is more critical. Every installer has experienced a situation where the cable pull test did not seem representative of the entire house. Then there’s the crisis on the 4th floor on the left, because the cable duct ruins the whole ambience concept. And finally, the subsequent dispute over who is responsible for the chipped plaster.

In-house work can therefore hold many surprises. It’s good to know that with the right software solution for planning and documentation, you are perfectly equipped to deal with them.
